Sivalbp has clad the façade of the Niki de Saint Phalle primary school in Bagneux (92), near Paris. At the heart of the project was the architectural firm archi5, responsible for the design and construction of the school's exterior fittings.

A look back at this project to renovate the façade of the Niki de Saint Phalle school in Bagneux (92), using Larch wood cladding.

Pre-weathered wood cladding for easy maintenance!

To anticipate the effects of time and the natural greying of wood, the choice fell on wood cladding with pre-weathered saturator. Why was this chosen? Here are some answers.

The main concern of the primary school project stakeholders was the upkeep and maintenance costs of the façade. The choice fell on a biosourced wood material for the façade cladding. Given the plethora of products on the market, which wood cladding and finishing solution should we choose? The choice fell on pre-weathered Sivalbp wood cladding to anticipate the effects of time and keep the façade uniform.

There are several advantages to choosing a Sivalbp saturator:

  • Low maintenance requirements over time.
  • Saturated finishes that won't peel or flake and don't need stripping or sanding.
  • In this way, maintenance costs can be controlled and anticipated.

Cladding the outside of the school with Larch wood cladding for a low-carbon building

The project for the Niki de Saint Phalle primary school uses bio-sourced and sustainable materials to ensure that the building blends in naturally with its surroundings.

The construction of bio-sourced buildings has been on the increase since the RE2020 and the Climate and Resilience Act came into force.

At Sivalbp, we offer a wide range of bio-sourced wood cladding products that meet the requirements of the new environmental regulations. We are pioneers in our sector, and in 2019 we will be producing our own individual FDES (Fiches de Déclaration Individuelle et Sanitaire) to formalise the environmental impact and life cycle analysis of our wood cladding. When you choose Sivalbp wood cladding, you know the carbon weight per m² of our wood cladding strips.

For the construction of the Niki de Saint Phalle primary school, the choice of Larch wood cladding reduces the IC Construction (Carbon Indicator) coefficient stipulated in the RE2020 regulations for all new primary and secondary education buildings.

What is the IC Construction coefficient in the RE2020 environmental regulations?

The IC Constructioncoefficient characterises the impact on climate change of the components (materials and equipment) of a building and the construction site itself. Certain bio-based products used in the construction of buildings, such as wood cladding, can have a negative carbon impact if they store more carbon than they emit during their life cycle. The use of wood cladding is therefore an effective solution for reducing the carbon footprint of buildings and thus meeting the CI Constructionthresholds set by the RE2020.

As a reminder, here are the maximum thresholds for the Construction CI that will have to be met by 2031 as part of the RE2020 for all new buildings:

  • 2022: < 740 (multi-family homes) and < 640 (single-family homes)
  • 2025: < 650 (multi-family homes) and < 530 (single-family homes)
  • 2028: < 580 (multi-family homes) and < 475 (single-family homes)
  • 2031: < 490 (multi-family homes) and < 415 (single-family homes)

Euroclass C Larch wood cladding to comply with ERP fire regulations

In response to European fire regulations, we offer several solutions for EUROCLASSE C and D cladding. This fire constraint was present in the construction project for the Niki de Saint Phalle primary school. This is why we chose our Larch wood cladding with Soléa II profile from our New Age range.

As a reminder, all our Larch wood cladding comes from forests managed in an eco-responsible way and is PEFC certified.
