In a context where sustainable construction and the use of eco-friendly materials are becoming increasingly important, wood cladding is attracting more and more builders and architects. Boréale Eco-Construction, a company specializing in traditional carpentry and wooden houses, based in the heart of the Hauts-de-France region, shares its experience and vision of this material of the future. In this interview, its manager discusses the advantages of wood cladding, its partnership with Sivalbp, and the trends shaping contemporary architecture.

Could you tell us about your business?

"Boréale Eco-Construction is a craft company specializing in traditional wooden framing, the construction of extensions, loft conversions, and wooden houses. The company is based in the Hauts-de-France region, in the heart of the Lille-Arras-Douai-Lens area.
We carry out construction on site (which is practical for adapting to existing structures or when access is difficult) or off site (building walls in the workshop). We favor the use of eco-friendly and bio-based materials such as wood wool, cotton wool, and cellulose wadding whenever possible. We are also trained in straw construction (ProPaille) and hemp construction.

What are the main reasons why you recommend wood cladding to your customers?

"To our great satisfaction, the majority of our customers ask us to install wood cladding on our buildings.
In addition to being a natural, eco-friendly, attractive, and durable material, wood siding creates a ventilated wall. Whether open or closed, this wall acts as an outer “skin” that protects against climatic variations while ensuring the walls can breathe, which is essential for the comfort and durability of the structure."

What attracted you to Sivalbp wood cladding?

"Historically, Nord-Pas-de-Calais has not been a region known for its woodworking. Brick is very common in the mining basin, and stone in the Arras region. Thanks to Sivalbp, we can offer our customers a wide range of products, enabling them to find the cladding that best blends in with the existing environment.
The catalog offers a wide variety of profiles, wood species, and finishes, and the products we receive are high quality.
Another advantage of Sivalbp is the availability of technical data sheets and certifications, which provide clear and accurate information on the installation, origin, characteristics, and maintenance of the cladding."

Can you share some of your wood cladding projects with us?

"The most popular Sivalbp cladding in our region is the EcoThermo Soléa 2 Irisé108 Nordic Pine.
Its faux openwork profile, installed vertically with invisible fasteners and a pre-gray saturator, is very trendy! This cladding seems to go with everything.

We built a pool house on which we installed it, in combination with three other types of cladding: Red Cedar cladding, standing seam zinc, and HPL panels. Like our customer, we are very satisfied with the result. We also used this cladding for an extension to an existing house with white render, and the final result is particularly successful."

In conclusion, is there a message you would like to convey to potential customers who are considering wood cladding for their project?

"As with timber framing, there is growing demand for timber cladding from project owners and architects. The quality and variety of the range, as well as Sivalbp's investment in fire resistance studies and certifications, are contributing significantly to this trend.

It is essential to reduce the use of chemical or energy-intensive finishing products. Wood cladding should not be reduced to its autoclave version, often perceived as an entry-level solution. Today, there is a wide variety of species and treatments that combine aesthetics, performance, and environmental friendliness."

We would like to warmly thank the entire Boréale Eco-Construction team for their time and for sharing their wealth of knowledge with us. Their commitment to more ecological and sustainable construction, as well as their confidence in our Sivalbp wood cladding solutions, honor us and motivate us to continue our efforts in innovation and quality.
We are proud to support passionate and demanding players who contribute to promoting architecture that respects the environment and is in harmony with the local area.
